The humans were never seen as more than clever apes, so dirty and foul. When the water-borne alien race descended from the sky and began to harvest the planet’s water they thought nothing of the simple creatures that lived there nor the destruction that they wrought.
Operations took longer than anticipated when it was found that precipitation hid in the atmosphere of Earth itself and so the aliens made a base of operations. From there they set about sucking the atmosphere dry.
In the meanwhile a few of the more adventurous invaders took to hunting down the local wildlife - finding them to be apt sources of water as well. This was a surprise as life on their world had developed from silicon.
All that remained were the more elusive prey - the humans. These beasts had taken to hiding in warrens beneath the ruins of their nests (cities) and put up quite a fight when cornered.
The aliens were horribly adapted for the conditions on Earth since they hailed from a watery world. Barely able to hold themselves upright, let alone slither across the ground, they found that within the maze of destroyed buildings there vehicles were too unwieldy and so another solution had to be found…

I loved drawing the alien in this pic. This was one of the rare times I did a background for a pic. :p
