Fallout 4
All done. My sort-of spoiler laden review follows.
I didn’t like it.
Early on the game was reminiscent of the Stalker series. Bullets were in short supply, everything could kill me, I scrounged what I could carry.
Then the wastes awarded my toil with PewPew the Beautiful End That Awaits Us All (my name for it), a legendary laser pistol which had an automatic fire mod and would also fire an additional shot for every shot fired.
I dumped all my perks in VATs and crit generation. I’d snipe people from vast distance, melting their heads with ten guaranteed crit shots with no chance of missing. Nothing stood in my way.
I quickly lost interest in game combat because I’d won. :p That was when I realized that combat was the only thing anyone wanted from me. All the quests involved “go here, find this thing, kill everything else.”
So I skipped doing the fluff quests and doubled down on the core stoyline. I found my son and embarked on a crusade to subjugate all other wasteland factions. I’m sure I missed all of their faction quests as I waded through dust-storms of disintegrated brotherhood of steel and railroaders, but by this point I’d lost interest in the game itself. The big reveal was what I’d predicted from the moment I woke from cryosleep.
The game layouts are confusing. The menus as dense and hard to navigate. Half the game features are never mentioned, so you end up stumbling on how to crit or build something. The wastelands is beautiful, but still too gray. Characters are much less horrific to behold than previous Bethesda graphics. And dialog trees leave me feeling like I have no control over what I’ll say.
But I’m sure the majority of people will enjoy it, and that’s okay ;) I’ll resume waiting for Kentucky Route Zero 4.
